I raced one of these in '96 in the NORBA series and many local CO races. There were not a lot of these Specialized bikes around, I don't think that many were made and sold. Steel front triangle, alum seat and chain stays. This bike was tough and held up to a ton of abuse. These were early days of DH racing. It was one of the few early full suspension bikes you could just buy on the bike shop floor and all I could afford at the time for $2k as a lightly used bike from University Bikes in Boulder. It started out with a flat bar and terrible little rear shock. Fox made me a new Vanilla rear shock at one of the NORBA races. A riser bar and some IRC Missles and it felt pretty good for the times. This was a time, however, when massive advancements were being made very quickly in DH bike tech. Factory guys were riding Boxxers right around this time and they were only available to the sponsored guys. Trust me, that rock shocks Judy DH was not as good as the early Boxxer! The equipment disparity made it really hard to compete at a high level without big sponsorships because the good parts were simply not for sale to the public. Such a golden time for mtb racing and a very fun time in my life! 

Seeing this bike just got me fired UP to ride, so I'm loadin my stuff and headin to the high country for a lap. Thanks for posting this one.
